Maruti Alto Maruti has the strongest product portfolio in the small car segment. It intends to make its cars most competitive in this segment and therefore it is revamping its entire product range with the new K-series engine. After SX4 automatic with new engine, now Wagon R and Maruti Alto are lined up for a new engine.

Maruti will be discontinuing its old F-series engine in both the models soon and will launch new models soon in the Indian market. These models will be compliant with the emission norms that come into effect in 11 Indian cities from April 2010. Both the models have not undergone any significant change since past 2-3 years. Therefore, both the models are slated for minor cosmetic changes as well apart from the engine change. Maruti has not revealed any details of the new models so far but it is expected that Alto may get pricier due to the new engine and added features.

ďK12M engine is another example of Maruti Suzukiís commitment to take engine technology in India to the next level. This is in line with parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporationís focus on maximizing the environmental benefits of fully proven technologies. For this, Suzuki is fully exploiting the know-how gained in over 50 years of compact-car production. K-series engine is the latest innovation coming from this focus. K series engines are not just fuel efficient but also low on CO2 emissions. The K12M engine further strengthens Maruti Suzukiís efforts for fuel efficient, green engine technology for customers in India,Ē Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki has stated earlier.

Currently Maruti A-Star, Ritz, Estilo and SX4 already possess the new engine which is BS IV compliant and more fuel efficient. Maruti has recently launched the new SX4 model that also comes with automatic transmission.
